Blade Series Ensure Quality Meets Requirements Nov 06, 2017

Blade Series has always been the most important part of the knife, when we choose the tool, the first consideration is the quality of the knife, what factors will affect the quality of the tool? Blade Series material to a large extent determine the good or bad of a knife, today's small to give you a detailed description of the impact of the Blade Series quality of several important factors.

Hardness: This is the ability to measure material resistance to deformation. As the name suggests, the harder material will be more durable and will be better maintained.

Hardening: The ability to harden materials by adding other materials or by heat treatment processes.

Strength: This is closely related to hardness, but there is a little different because the material resists the ability to exert the force on it.

Ductility: relating to strength and hardness, which refers to the ability of a material to bend and revert to its original state without destroying or permanently deforming.

Toughness: The ability of a material to withstand pressure before fracture, which can actually be measured.

Initial clarity: How sharp the Blade Seriess are when they are manufactured. This is not related to the actual material, but to the production process.

Edge retention: This is a very important factor for high quality tool, which can keep the sharpness of edges for a long time. Ordinary cutters are quickly deactivated, while high-quality cutters do not.

Whether iron, aluminum or steel, the Blade Series will turn them into the desired shape when machined. The Blade Seriess are made of the hardest material in the world. World renowned tool supplier Mount Victoria Cola shares their Blade Series production process, which is located in the Swedish Kimmer (Gimo) production base.

1. The main components of the Blade Series are different proportions of tungsten carbide and cobalt, the original form of raw materials is powder. The containers are equipped with good ingredients, which will be used to produce different powders. Each container weighs about 560 kilograms.

2. In the workshop, a mixture of dry raw materials with ethanol and water is used to form a grey paste with a viscous consistency similar to yogurt.

3. After drying the slurry, the sample is sent to the laboratory for quality inspection. These powders consist of a number of particles of 20 to 200 microns in diameter. They are very small (the thickness of a hair is 50 to 60 microns).

4 & 5. The powders are transported in a 100-kilogram bucket to the edge of the punching machine used to make the Blade Seriess. The operator puts the die (the mould for stamping different Blade Seriess) into the machine and enters the order number into the computer. The die cavity is filled with powder. Press each Blade Series to press up to 12 tons. The machine will weigh each Blade Series and the operator will observe the control. At this stage, the Blade Series is very fragile and easily cracked.

6. For hardening, the pressed Blade Series needs to be heated. This work is done by the sintering furnace. Sintering Furnace can handle thousands of Blade Seriess at a time. The pressed Blade Series powder is heated to about 1,500 degrees Celsius in the process of up to 13 hours, and it melts into cemented carbide, a very high hardness material. The shrinkage ratio of sintering process is about 50%, so the size of the Blade Series after sintering is only half of the former.

7. Once again in the laboratory to complete quality inspection, the top and bottom of the Blade Series will be grinding into the required thickness. Because cemented carbide is very hard, it is necessary to use the world's hardest material-industrial diamond, to grind it.

8. When the Blade Series reaches the required thickness, it will be further grinding to obtain precise geometrical shapes and dimensions. This is the most advanced grinding process in the Kimmer plant and requires the use of 6-axis grinding plates to meet extremely stringent tolerances.

9. When the grinding is finished, the Blade Seriess are cleaned and sent to the coating. At this stage, to avoid any grease or dust, handle the Blade Seriess must wear gloves. The Blade Series is placed on the clamp of the turntable and then sent to the lower pressure coating furnace. The Blade Series is a different color from here.

10. The Blade Seriess have been produced. We will use a microscope to conduct sampling of each batch of products to ensure that the quality meets the requirements.

11. Before packing, we will check each Blade Series again and check the drawing and batch number. Then use the laser to mark the correct material on the Blade Series and put the Blade Series in a labeled gray box. You can now distribute the Blade Seriess to customers.
